PainDifferent from acute pain in that it is not a sensation trigger warning of sudden injury or temporary hurt, chronic pain is a constant aching and throbbing that persists for long periods of time. As many as 76.5 million people suffer from chronic pain in the United States, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, and it can affect people for weeks, months or even years at a time. Because of this constant pain, it is often difficult for people to work and frequently interferes with daily life.
